Bioparc Valencia

My husband and I have been in Valencia for a couple of months now. One of the first things we did when we got here was buy annual passes to the Bioparc in Valencia.  Though not very big, it is hands down one of the best zoos I have every visited! With the way the park and habitats are designed, it's hard to tell where the barriers between people and animals really are. I love that so many of the enclosures can be seen from several different directions. It is set up to allow you to revisit animals without backtracking as you make your way through the park.

The entire park is African themed and because of this, many of the habitats house several different animals at once. So there is always a chance to spot something; and much of the time the animals seem to be awake and active. The entire zoo can be seen in a couple of hours but I highly recommend taking time to sit and watch for as long as possible.

One of the biggest highlights overall is the Madagascar area where you get to actually walk through with lemurs climbing and jumping all around you. This is one place where there are no barriers between animals and people. Only zoo attendants watching to make sure no one touches or feeds the lemurs. It can be a little scary at times when the lemurs are sitting along the path at the same level as your head! You never know what they might do and I found it uncomfortable turning my back to them. Lemurs just naturally look so mischievous!

For me, the best part of the Bioparc is the cafe that overlooks a huge savanna habitat full of giraffe, birds, and antelope. It has become a favorite spot for my husband and I to go for breakfast or an afternoon snack. We can spend an hour easily sitting and watching. It's very peaceful but the reason it is my favorite is because, every now and then, the lions show up on a large rock overlooking the whole savanna! The male lion is particularly noisy and can often be heard roaring from all around the park.

Every time I visit I see or experience something new. With such happy and active animals, there is never a dull moment at the Bioparc Valencia. Everyone traveling to Valencia should make the time to visit, no matter how short their trip!

Leave me a comment if you have ever been to the Bioparc in Valencia or let me know what zoo is your favorite.

Hasta Pronto!

I'm back!: What now?

I can't believe it has been three years since I've last published a blog post! I knew it had been a while but, in my head, it was no more than two years, tops. And so much has happened since then...

  • I'm no longer living in Italy.
  • English Boy is now The Husband.
  • I've had some amazing trips: California Road Trip,  Disney World, New York City, Hawaii.
  • I spent some time in England with my husband.
  • And now we are in Spain!

We are in Valencia, Spain to be exact. It is a wonderful city and it was time I got back to working on the blog.

I had a hard time writing post before I stopped. Mostly because I put so much pressure on myself to get out everything I wanted to say. It took me hours to write a post! Then a few more hours editing pictures to add to it. Then after all that, I was never quite happy with the end product. That all is going to change if I'm going to be able to keep up with this blog. Shorter posts, less pictures, more fun! I never wanted this blog to turn into a sad attempt at a travel guide. It is about my personal experiences and adventures; a journal to share with family and friends.

So stay tuned for what is to come from my time in Spain!

Hasta Pronto!
